Nebbiolo Rosato 2019
Salmon pink, savoury and super sexy, the Nebbiolo grape makes lip-smacking Rosé for grown-ups.
This beautiful bottle is printed with fine, filigreed artwork representing the Queen of the Ancient Roman Gods, Juno – goddess of Heaven, Matrimony and Women and was the daughter of the all-powerful Saturn, God of Harvest.
An image of Saturn appears on Longview’s Nebbiolo bottle and is the namesake of the Saturno family, owners of Longview Vineyard.

Pale salmon pink in colour with delicate notes of orange peel, ripe strawberry and musk aromas. The palate bursts with maraschino cherries, star anise and tart raspberries, then finishes with savoury, refreshing acidity. Lingering and dry; unmistakably Nebbiolo!
A dry Spring helped with disease control and provided ideal conditions for the flowering period. Dry conditions throughout summer helped us control vine vigour resulting in balanced canopies. From veraison to harvest, the weather was warmer than average, however minimal moisture and cool, clear nights assisted in fruit flavour development and acid retention. A perfect balance. The fruit was hand harvested on the 11th April during the coolest part of the day and delivered to the winery immediately to preserve fruit flavour.
All four clones of Nebbiolo planted on own roots present at Longview are processed for Rosato. Clone 111 is the largest portion selected for its amazing perfume lift, with 230, F12V13 and F12V7 allocated for their fruit weight and structural components. Our Nebbiolo blocks were planted in 1997 and are all on north facing slopes in four different areas on the estate. The Nebbiolo is cane pruned and trained to a VSP trellis. It is shoot thinned early to 8-10 shoots/m and then bunch thinned twice to ensure yields are controlled for even ripening and fruit flavour development. Leaf plucking is performed for air circulation late in the season to improve drying conditions. The fruit was hand-picked, then chilled to 10˚C. It was then crushed, de-stemmed and the free run juice separated and fermented for this light rosé style. Bentonite fining and coarse earth filtering ensures a clear, bright pink finish.

93 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review – “Light salmon-pink hue with a savoury, slightly dried=herby aroma, lightly grassy and lemony. The palate is soft and fruity, juicy and supple, with a nice dry, savoury finish and aftertaste. A firm, dry, savoury style of rosé with serious styling and a cleansing finish. I could drink plenty of this.”
