Devil’s Elbow Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
The Devil’s Elbow hairpin on the old Adelaide freeway is memorable for its unexpected shift in direction. Our Cabernet echoes the feeling of excitement that travellers often experience on their first attempt.
This wine is a rarity in the Adelaide Hills as the varietal is seldom planted but Longview ‘s locations and unique micro-climate allows the fruit to enjoy a long ripening period.
The wine is classic Cabernet, demonstrated through its restrained, medium bodied palate of wild cherries, capsicum and fresh herbs. Firm and persistent tannins balance this melange of flavours and guarantee an exhilarating and lengthy finish.
Decant for maximum enjoyment.

Blueberry, cassis and pencil shaving notes, with a touch of mint on the nose. The palate is well structured with grippy yet ripe tannin, black fruit and dark chocolate together with bright acidity give a long clean finish. A solid, savoury Cabernet Sauvignon that will benefit from 12+ years cellaring.
The season started with good soil moisture enabling early spring growth, followed by ideal flowering conditions in November. The hot weather through December and January helped control the growth and wet weather in February freshened the canopies to ensuring even ripening. The ripening period from veraison was ideal with exceptional acid retention and cool climate flavour development.
Cabernet Sauvignon at Longview is located on a north facing slopes with a north-south row orientation. This site is perfectly suited as the soils are shallow, sandy loam, with ironstone and quartz throughout the topsoil. These are the oldest vines on site; planted on own roots and spaced at 1m by 2.4m. These factors each contribute to reduced vigour and yields, which combined with the warmer conditions during the day and cool seabreeze influence during the night, ensure even ripening for Cabernet Sauvignon in the Southern part of the Adelaide Hills.

91 Points – Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front. “This cabernet speaks with a soft voice. Indeed this is about as amiable as cabernet comes. It tastes of cassis, mint and bay leaves and while there is tannin and choc-like notes it simply flows effortlessly through the palate, pleasing as it goes. It’s balanced, varietal and good.”
2015 Longview Devil’s Elbow Cabernet Sauvignon
92 Points – Gary Walsh. “Named for a particularly hairy bend in the Adelaide Hills, no pun intended, Fratelli Saturno. Rich and cakey Cabernet packed with blackcurrant, mint and sandalwood perfume. Medium to full-bodied, thick tannin, plum duff, lush black fruit and mocha flavour, balanced acidity, and a slick of inky tannin on a throbbing finish. They’ve done well with this vintage. Ripeness and intensity are its hallmarks.”
Dan Traucki – “Aromas of plums, mulberries and vanillin oak, a BIG mouthful of delicious, svelte, elegant wine, with masses of flavour and a smooth lingering finish. A REAL CLASS ACT!”
