Traditionally, aromatic white wines are the Adelaide Hills’ most famous styles. It is Australia’s go-to region for vibrant Sauvignon Blanc, and the region’s Chardonnay rivals the very best in the world with exceptional fruit intensity and complexity. Longview has stamped its authority on these styles and has also won numerous accolades for (the-very-underrated-in-the-region) Riesling. However, the Adelaide Hills are pioneers of “alternative” varieties that are making a huge splash and Longview are early adopters. In particular, the Austrian variety Gruner Veltliner has found its second home in the Hills, with the region now growing more than any other country outside its homeland.
